Brooker Creek Preserve
Thursday, April 1st thru Saturday, April 3rd at 7AM to one hour before sunset
Brooker Creek Preserve 3940 Keystone Road, Tarpon Springs
Comprised of more than 8,000 acres of natural ecosystems. The horse trails and Friends Trail are open daily and holidays. Boardwalks and trails next to the Environmental Education Center are open Thursday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to one hour before sunset. The preserve is closed Monday through Wednesdays and holidays.

Dress Rehearsals April 29 and 30 at 3:00 p.m. and May 1 at 10:00 a.m. The fabulous flying white Lipizzans who performed the rare and beautiful "Airs Above the Ground Mounted" as seen in Walt Disney's "Miracle of the White Stallions" train here in the Tampa Bay area. Visitors are welcome to watch beauty and grace of the original Lipizzan Stallions of Austria as they are put through their paces in their winter training home. Free admission, but donations are appreciated. Reservations required for groups of 15 or more.

Project Archaeology: Investigating Shelter

Presented by C. Rae Harper, West Central Regional Center, Florida Public Archaeology Network
Participants learn to think and research like an archaeologist as they investigate historic shelters using the archaeological process in this afterschool program. Families are encouraged to participate in this curriculum developed by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management that teaches investigative skills of mapping, classifying, and identifying an archaeological site. Presented by the Florida Public Archaeology Network, program sessions are scheduled for every other Thursday from January 21 through May 27, 2010. Free. Spaces are limited so register early! Cross Bayou Canal and Joe’s Creek Spring Cleanup
Saturday, April 3 at 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Pinellas County and Keep Pinellas Beautiful are partnering in the 2010 Great American Cleanup. Bring your kayak or canoe to access the mangrove islands. Play to get dirty so wear old sneakers or water shoes. Life vests are required. Meet at the Pinellas County gated property in Pinellas Park, on 78th Street off of Park Boulevard. The gate is at the end of the street. Bring work gloves, sunscreen, a hat and chair or towel for a lunch picnic. The county will provide trash grabbers, bug spray, vinyl gloves and water. Guided hikes through coastal mangrove and upland ecosystems of the Preserve are held each Saturday of the month. Join us to learn about the coastal environment and the early residents of Weedon Island Preserve. Be sure to bring water and a snack for this 2-hour hike. A hat and closed-toe shoes are also recommended. Pre-register by 2:00 pm on the Friday prior to the tour of your choice. Free. Recommended ages: 6 and up. Come discover the hidden world of the estuary with some of the smallest critters that live in Tampa Bay. Live samples of plankton from Tampa Bay will be available in our classroom to examine and identify. Plankton describes a diverse group of organisms suspended in all bodies of water, including estuaries and oceans. Microscopes help reveal these fascinating creatures which exhibit a wide variety of bizarre shapes and adaptations. Activities are self-guided; just stop by our classroom anytime between 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm to participate. Free. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
