Get trained in reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilization or pesticide application. This program is designed for anyone working in the lawn, landscape, pest control, or municipal ground areas. BMP certification will be awarded to those passing the exam. This class costs $15 per person. It is free to County Employees, School Board Employees, and Pinellas County Master Gardener Volunteers. A maximum of 4 CEUs can be earned by attending this class. These mortuary patterns are compared to other contemporaneous sites in southern Florida, and to later burial practices, including the analysis of animal burials at the Miami Circle site. Free. Incredible Canine Athletes and their 'humans' will converge in Spa Beach Park to compete for the most coveted titles in Canine Athletics at the 2010 Eastern Regionals Championship. The Purina Incredible Dog Challenge features five core events. Diving Dog, Freestyle Flying Disc, Large and Small Agility Competition, Jack Russell Hurdle Racing and Head to Head Weave Pole Racing. There will also be additional special events, including a local qualifier for a limited number of spots, in Diving Dog and Freestyle Flying Disc on Friday, April 16th. Earth Day Clean-up: “Be Part of the Solution”

In celebration of the 40th annual Earth Day, the Environmental Lands Division is hosting a clean up at Weedon Island Preserve and is looking for volunteers to be a part of this project. Participants should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for some muddy areas. This event is being held in conjunction with Global Days of Service with thousands of volunteers across the globe participating in environmental projects on April 17th and 18th. Participants will receive an eco-friendly item and a Weedon Island memento. This is a free event. Recommended ages are 12 and up. Pre-registration required by calling (727) 453-6500.

Presented by Education Services Volunteers, Environmental Lands Division
Guided hikes through coastal mangrove and upland ecosystems of the Preserve are held each Saturday of the month. Join us to learn about the coastal environment and the early residents of Weedon Island Preserve. Be sure to bring water and a snack for this 2-hour hike. A hat and closed-toe shoes are also recommended. Pre-register by 2:00 pm on the Friday prior to the tour of your choice. Free. Recommended ages: 6 and up. Rain Harvesting Workshop
Saturday, April 17 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM
Pinellas County Extension, 12520 Ulmerton Road, Largo
Learn how save rain water in a recycled plastic barrel for later use. The collected water is safe for use on your potted plants, vegetable and herb gardens, and special plant collections. All attendees will receive set-up instructions and a reference booklet with free registration. Registration required by Thursday, April 15. Join us for fun, hands-on exhibits as we promote the 4-H SET (science, engineering, and technology) initiative. Adults and youth will have an opportunity to complete make-and-take activities as they learn why we need to conserve our resources to help our earth stay healthy and clean for generations to come. In celebration of the 40th annual Earth Day, the Environmental Lands Division is hosting a clean up at Weedon Island Preserve and is looking for volunteers to be a part of this project. Participants should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for some muddy areas. This event is being held in conjunction with Global Days of Service with thousands of volunteers across the globe participating in environmental projects on April 17th and 18th. Participants will receive an eco-friendly item and a Weedon Island memento. This is a free event. Recommended ages are 12 and up. Pre-registration required by calling (727) 453-6500.

Guided Hike at Brooker Creek Preserve

Brooker Creek Environmental Education Center, 3940 Keystone Rd, Tarpon Springs
Join us for this 0.75-mile walk as we look at how the land has changed over time and discuss the ecological footprints left by those changes. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are a must, and water and a hat are recommended. Free. Children younger than 6 may find this hike challenging. Please register by noon on Friday by calling (727) 453-6800.
